Highway Flee

Thabiso took a northward turn off the N1 highway, and drove the RV into the earlier hours of the night. Lerato had made her way to the front of the van, open to an adventure, though apprehensive about the stakes.
"So, you say you and Tammy only meet up when it's just about time to save the world from crazy threasts 'domestically mystical and esoteric or extraterrestrial'," she movked at Thabiso, who maintained his pleasant steel.
"Yeah, that's pretty much it, yeah," Thabiso had responded curtly. As pleasant as his features and tones where, he came across as short tempered and pensive to Lerato, who could not help but see an older version of her brother in the stranger before her.
"So, how did you and Tammy meet?" Lerato asked.
"No," said Tammy sternly from the back of the van, and the atmosphere tensed up. "Tell us where you are taking us, Thabiso. No mystical, esoteric, ethereal or extraterrestrial, just the human level facts."

Kagiso and Lerato were taken aback by just how situationally aware Tammy had become since the company had been lead by her to the stranger's car, and told briefly about being founding members in an elite task force which was not officially disclosed, and that they had to leave the Eastern Cape for Kwa-Zulu Natal at all haste, as they were.
The stranger, the mystical sage-like being Tammy had recognized immediately as Thabiso, now Lerato remembered, had been a disgraced journalist turned information merchant and online portal engineer, and had made headlines in all the multilingual newstablets.  Kagiso and Lerato were barely out of high school when a multitrillion dollar conglomorate emerged from a beat journalist deciding to turn his own blog into a content center, and build from that.  Things had become so heated, that the army became involved, and two people escaped by running into a mountain in Kwa-Zulu, and vanishing. Somehow, they had become involved, coincidentally, in spy-level engagement with world leaders following psychedelic exploration when Tammy and Thabiso had been something like a couple, yet without fixed normative ascriptions.  Lerato found herself entranced and enchanted by the way in which Thabiso and Tammy wove a narrative well together, and wondered if they weren't, in fact, both from another planet.
"Tammy, you would tell me if you are an alien, right?" Kagiso asked, reading his sister's mind. Only Thabiso laughed, but quickly pulled himself together.
"Yup, she's an alien, mate," he replied to Kagiso.
"Thabiso, please be kind? No, Kaggie, I'm human, and so is the idiot with a staff up front pretending to be a wizard," Tammy sung.
