Syria still burns while a-holes reign supreme

I am Mishap. To some, I am simply a pen. To my master, I am a sword in the unending battle against ignorance and sheer stupidity. Master and I have saved the world twice-over. That is a lie? No, I cannot lie... I am a pen and what I blot on a page will outlive you all, and must therefore be truer than your lives; it certainly lasts longer. I miss master. We got separated by fate. I do not know this place, but it looks ... clean ... I can live here. I have seen many hands - but no master in a bit over a week. Master and I will find our way to each other - I know he searches day and night. I know he searches.

The light bulb flickers. Arthur sits on his bed, which is positioned directly behind his desk - the combination of furniture forming a T-shaped island in the pool of clutter he calls home. He missed Mishap, having lost him a week after rescuing him from the shelves. He admittedly hadn't gone to great lengths to find him - after all, he could easily get another pen and call it Mishap as well... but he missed him still. Especially since he had paid an arm he wouldn't ever see again to free him. He found half a pencil with a very blunt point and got writing.

I live in a barren wasteland, completely devoid of salvation from deprivation and yearning for care... The world refuses to end, even though it inches closer to oblivion by the day. As feared, Syria has turned into a Middle-Eastern Somalia with trigger-happy Muslims shooting at everything that doesn't look as though it's been shot at enough. Do they even still know that the fight is against President Bashar al-Assad?

'Will the world ever find peace with assholes at the helm?'

I stumbled upon that question whilst catching up on some light reading on the web. Would it not have been better had Bashar relinquished his presidency? It certainly would have saved a lot of lives. But why should he care - he's rich, isn't he? Before I start sounding as though I'm siding with the Rebels-Turned-Brutal-Terrorist, I must add that they, too, wouldn't exist if he had simply stepped down when shit hit the fan. Easy for me to criticize from the outside, some would say. I say I don't have to carry an AK-47 and shoot idiots for a cause that died with Saladin's Ayyubid dynasty and legacy the minute the world's biggest git inherited Syria.

He closed his notebook as the light bulb, after a lengthy flickering, withered out - leaving him in darkness.
