Songbird

I wish to tell you a little story.

Once upon a time, in a province very far away from that whence he came from, a young man embarked on a life-changing journey of a lifetime: he sought out in search for ... "The One"! If the legends were true, there existed somewhere in the world One individual with the power to sooth all of one's woes and erase their past - replacing it with a solid present and a promising future. Poets wrote of their power, artists brought it to life in vivid paintings and musicians have encapsulated its wonder in many a lyric. The young man sought after Love in its purest form ... Untainted and still in tact.

Months down the line, he gave up the search. He had instead found rot and decay in the hearts and souls of many of those whom he had hoped would help him along his journey to discovering the greatest treasure of all. He had found locusts and disease in the pools from which he sought to quench his thirst, and he had found nothing but pain along his travels.  Until he met Princess You.

You whom he trusts. You whom he would go to great lengths for. You whom he has yet to dishonor, whom he has yet to know. You whom he wishes not to . . . In his darkest hour, at the break of the dawn, he found You who accepted him for all he was, all he wished to be, and all he could be. He found You, who gave him hope.

One day, on the eve of a great task - he sat on a patch of unkempt grass in the middle of the woods with his feather and his parchment and wrote:

"You are the apple, I am Adam. You are what my heart truly desires, yet I wish not to bear the curse of bringing our entire existence as it is to an abrupt cease because of my lustful urge to hold you in my hands and to feel you in my heart.
"I have nought much to offer but my hand with which I write. I have nought else to give but my heart which beats at the rhythm of a thousand stampeding buck. I have nought else to share but all that I am."

He sent it to her via a magical Book of Faces, coined by the Great Warlock of The Zuckerberg's of the Western Counties United.

Princess You read it ... smiled and wrote him back*

The end.

I do not write lies, though I do tell tales.*
