Unsubscribing to Ideological Oppression

We have all experienced the unpleasantness of being told what is expected of us. The hardest expectations of all are those of heteronormativity. In the mystical realms of Academia, far, far away behind mountains of gold where some of our youths are sent for further brainwashing and antagony by ‘the system’, this is the term they use for Normal ways of living. You know, normal … a little boy … a little girl … school … jobs … marriage … children … another little boy … another little girl. In reality, heteronormativity is a Weapon of Ideological Oppression (WIO).

Internationally, the search for WMD’s in the Middle-East was a sub-weapon of WIO. And here in South Africa we had apartheid. You see, the apartheid struggle has ended here in South Africa, but the revolution is only just starting for us. It has been going on for a very long time. We gained a lot of ground sometime two thousand years ago when one of our forefathers was crucified. He worked a miracle from beyond the grave. The story is immortalized. He was neither first nor was he the only. Our forefathers have fought and died to get us all on an equal footing. “Imagine all the people living life in peace”. Now, if you’re seeing this, then you are part of the revolution, brothers and sisters. The struggle now is to gain the freedom to just be; to be at peace, to love unconditionally in harmony and to be left in happiness by all.

Were we to assume that this is what Old Nelson meant when he said, “there is only peace”, then surely this is all we’re truly entitled to in this country, on this planet, within this entire realm of existence. Peace.

Yet, to some, how anyone can be expected to truly enjoy peace in all its entirety is an unheard of concept. There are bills to be paid, some say. Others are quick to list people they dislike and the things they do. It’s not their spirit that’s been captured, it’s their presence. They embody victims of Ideological Oppression, the conditioned test-subjects of heteronormativity. So of course there are homophobic people out there; there are murderers and rapists out there too. These rascals are conditioned into believing the false notions of power instilled within them by the great lie that is Freedom to do whatever to whomever perpetuated by the 'system'. This is why there are bullies, thieves and liars too.

Let’s put them all in a bag and call it the Scum Bag. These are misguided souls who have been taught to dislike that part of themselves that they share with the others, they have been taught to hate being divine. It all starts the second we pop out: “It’s a girl,” they say, cows … they think; and all the karma of that role falls onto your shoulders. That is where conditioning begins.

It need not be so in tomorrow. Within each and every one of us exists a divine spirit which is neither male nor female, it simply is. We are not our bodies, our bodies are the shells that hold our souls, a great sage once said. This is what makes the concept of heteronormativity problematic. It’s quite unrealistic to try separate humans along gender lines.

We simply are. Yes, we do have those two particular organs that differ for reproductive purposes – that’s pretty much the only difference. We don’t have to ever use them. There are billions of humans on earth. Nobody today can make the claim that their keeping the species alive. It would be laughable.

Alas, it’s not enough that we’re told what we are at birth. No. We’re then told what colours to wear, what toys to play with. What chores to do. Then we grow older, and it gets deeper… We’re told the kind of person we’re expected to marry; one with whom we can make children and keep the chain of occupying earth by planting more human bodies on it going. We’re told we need a degree or else we won’t get a job, which will lessen our chances of being a good spouse to the other-gendered person you did a great job in marrying because now you’ll have children and a family of your own that looks like ours. Beyond those primary expectations, we find ourselves in workspaces where we’re the wrong everything: the wrong height, the wrong colour, the wrong type. Then we’re pushed to extremes, and we buy into their ideals. Almost everyone falls into this trap. Jesus didn't. Mohammed didn't. Buddha didn't. Krishna didn't. And they all said we shouldn't either, because like everything else in this world, HETERONORMATIVIT IS A CHOICE.

It’s cool if you like being told what to be, how to be it. We don’t judge. Life’s everyone’s choice. Just know the kind of choices you’re buying into when you sell your soul to the system by ‘investing in Ideological Oppression’. If you’re still reading, be kind to yourself by choosing to love the true you. This is that part of you that’s feeling right now. Love it, and don’t ever let anybody tell you what to do with it.

Peace Light Joy
